What I do is keep a journal or list of speech ideas. As I think of something I write it down on my list.
I also stick a 3M sticky note on each of my project manuals. I take the speech topic from my list and add them to the sticky note on a project where it seems to fit. Sometimes, a topic will fit on multiple projects i.e. with different objectives.
I heard that many song writers title their songs based on a saying or a phrase that they have heard in every day conversation. They then write the song to fit the title.
I believe that we can do the same with our speeches. A title like “It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time” could have multiple stories to go with it.
Start collecting sayings or interesting phrases, then flesh it out with your own material.
