According to Global News BCGlobal News BC, today January 19th is the most depressing day of the year. Researchers have declared that the third Monday of January is an annual downer for many. It is estimated that for almost five million Canadians, the lack of sunshine in the winter can lead to a mild form of depression called Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD.

Jodi Harvey-Quibell, an Okanagan-based business owner of Word to the Wise Writing & Editing Services, has set out to bring some Okanagan sunshine into our otherwise overcast Okanagan skies.

Thinking out of the box, Harvey-Quibell has rallied fellow OPC (Open For Change(Open For Change) members in creating Make Someone Smile DayMake Someone Smile Day. A Facebook event listing has optimistically sent invitations out to some 3.1k friends. At the time of writing, some 245 people have committed to making someone smile today.

Michael Lavigne, CEO & Co Founder of Open For Change offers some suggestions “Let's do something to change that! Smile at a stranger. Write positive notes and put them on people's windshields in a parking lot. Buy a bag of candy and share with everyone! Only share positive things for one full day on your social media! The ideas are endless!”

Make Someone Smile Day … made in the Okanagan. How will you share your smile?

Onwards & upwards!
